Today’s Little Story

Today’s breakfast.

I made a one-plate breakfast with grilled salmon, tamagoyaki, macaroni salad, and simmered hijiki.

My son doesn’t seem to be a big fan of hijiki, and whenever he gets the chance, he tries to leave it behind.

Today, he suddenly muttered,
“Mitoma is injured and can’t play in the World Cup,
so I don’t have much of an appetite.”

In my head, I couldn’t help thinking, “When did that injury even happen?”
Still, I said, “Okay, that’s fine,” and glanced at his plate…

The only thing left was the hijiki.

Come on, you just don’t want to eat the hijiki, do you?

He did finish his big serving of rice and all the other side dishes, so I’ll call that good enough!

The World Cup finally starts this week.

My son has always loved playing soccer, but he never seemed very interested in watching professional matches.

Lately, though, it feels like he’s starting to get a little more interested.

It was one of those mornings where I found myself hoping we could enjoy watching games on TV together someday.
